My family still enjoys burgers, the
old-fashioned kind cooked on a grill. We don't have them
often and when we do, I have extras cooked to use for a second
quick meal later during the week. I have lots of choices
for veggie burgers that can be cooked right on the grill with
the others.
My favorite brand that is the most
"burger-like" is Boca-Burgers, found in the freezer
section of many grocery stores. There are also many brands
of veggie burgers made from soy, beans, or vegetables.
Experiment to find one that you like to eat.
Another product I use occasionally
is called Tofu Burger by Fantastic Foods. They sell a mix
of spices, dehydrated vegetables, and grains that the directions
say to mix with 12 ounces of firm or extra-firm tofu and then
form into patties and brown in a non-stick skillet. I modified
the recipe by also adding 2 Tbsp. of ground flax seeds (flaxmeal),
and 2 Tbsp. of chopped fresh herbs from my herb garden (chives,
parsley, rosemary, summer savory, chervil, etc., etc.).
The recipe makes 6 small patties, enough for 3 meals for me during
the week either for lunch or supper. Two of these patties would
contain 4 ounces of tofu, which is one serving of soy foods.
